Caroline Bourrit (b. 1992) lives and works between Neuchâtel and Bern, Switzerland. She develops an artistic practice grounded in the observation of places, the histories they carry, and the conventions that structure them. Moving between narratives and social norms, she explores how we coexist with other living beings.

Her work unfolds through a particular attention to the thresholds between the visible and the invisible, to what circulates without always being seen or perceived. Whether through modes of communication, repeated gestures, translations, imitations, imaginaries, or superstitions, she creates interventions in which hidden dimensions can emerge and be shared.

In her research, she approaches a space through multiple interpretative frameworks, drawing on archives and encounters. The presence of the people who use the places where she intervenes often influences her projects, which come to life through an underlying narrative.

Caroline Bourrit seeks to thicken the present, to renegotiate the attention we give to our surroundings, and to bring into perspective worlds that overlap. Language runs throughout her practice — through writing, performance, and installation — in its capacity to (de)construct.

Bourrit regularly presents her projects in public space, notably at Lieu secret (Biel/Bienne, 2026), in collaboration with the City of Vevey (2024), at Mât art space (Neuchâtel, 2023), and at Lokal-int (Biel/Bienne, 2021).

She has exhibited, among others, at Quartier Général Centre d’art contemporain (La Chaux-de-Fonds, 2025, 2024); Centre d’art Neuchâtel (CAN, 2025, 2022); Centre d’art Pasquart (Biel/Bienne, 2023, 2021, 2018); Galerie Lange+Pult (Auvernier, 2024, 2021, 2019); EAC Les Halles (Porrentruy, 2019); and Kunsthaus Langenthal (2018). Her interventions sometimes take the form of readings or performances, presented notably at standard/deluxe (Lausanne, 2020), Espace 3353 (Geneva, 2020), Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac (Pantin, 2019), and La Villa Belleville (Paris, 2019).

She was awarded the City of Neuchâtel’s 2026 art competition for the redevelopment of the Collège latin, the City of Neuchâtel’s 2025 art competition for the adaptation of the wastewater treatment plant (STEP), and the City of Lausanne’s 2024 art competition for the creation of a mural on Place de la Riponne. She has also received research grants from the Canton of Neuchâtel (2022, 2024) and several residencies, notably at Atelier Suisse in Brussels (2021–2022) and the Cité internationale des arts in Paris (2018–2019).
